A PICTURE SAYS A THOUSAND WORDS

This is a picture of me and my friend Keith holding up two large Humphead Parrotfish.  What do you think??

I have had this picture on my Facebook page for almost a year.  It amazes me that every week I still get a “LIKE” or comment.  I’m not bragging but it is a pretty kewl image.  There is a lot of color contrast as well as subtle lighting effects and the subject matter is unusual to see.  What do you think??

Now they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder right?  It is true that people have varying tastes and may not like the picture for whatever reason.  I think this is completely right and normal.  What do you think??

We now live more than ever in the social internet world.  This world allows people from anywhere to chime in about some subject or subject matter.  I personally love that.  We’ve all seen or been apart of some spirited debate right?  We can give our opinions at will!

To me this picture represents a lot and marks a special period in my life. That aside nobody knows that.  How could you?  People could see our smiling faces and assume we are happy.  Others could see poor dead fish being lifted up by the throat.  Some will wonder what kind of fish they are.  Where do find these things?  Why?  Who is that guy in the back and so on.  It’s all in the eye of the beholder right??

I’m not going to tell the story behind this picture.  I’ll leave it up to your mind’s eye:)  Love it or hate it!  What do you think?

Hawaii for All

I don’t know who the artist of this painting is or was but I always loved the representation.  It probably means a lot of different things to different people and that’s fine I feel because it is art after all.  I wanted to post this image in hopes you all will take a moment to study it a bit and form your own opinions.  It’s not a terribly complex painting but it does carry weight.  Hope you enjoy.

Personally this is what I see.  At first glance it obviously portrays historic traditional Hawaiian fishermen fishing.  For those of you who do not live in the Hawaiian islands trust me on this.  When I look a little deeper I notice the fishermen’s faces and how they are all intently serious and focused.  Wouldn’t you agree that fishing, spearfishing, hunting and gathering requires this?  These men have a responsiblity and people are counting on them.

To me the elder Hawaiian holding the Ahi (Tuna) embodies responsible.  He tells me that these are our learned ways, these are our efforts, these are the bounties and we are fortunate.  He also tells me these are traditions that should not be forgotten or taken lightly.  Lastly the Ahi he holds is most important and it show on his face.  The man is a caretaker above all!  I think he has some worry.

We all can see this painting as Hawaiian but a lot of the subject matter can apply to communities worldwide.  Hopefully you can realize we all have a caretaker inside of us!
